  The Dream by John Hughes

John Hughes

Watching the Sydney Olympics the LYPs founder was impressed by the Williams girls. How had they achieved such dominance? What was their history?
They came from Harlem, from disadvantaged stock, but had devoted parents with determination.
If they could achieve world domination why couldn’t we in Loders do the same?
In Loders we had the physical resources: a squash court, 3 tennis courts, 3 heated swimming pools, badminton court, butts for archery and down the road a real tennis court. Most of all we have far sighted, devoted parents and talented children.
An excellent start and so it has proved.

The Mission

This is set to develop the full potential of all the members in what ever sport, drama, dance and music they choose. Any child from 5 – 18 years, attending Loders School or living within the Loders benefice can be full members. Associate membership is open to all providing there is spare capacity. Financial assistance is available so no one is denied opportunity through lack of finance.

The Aim

To bring all to the level where they can enjoy their chosen activity with their peers. The more talented to go on to County level and exceptional to National level.
We have already achieved County level!

Support

We have been most fortunate in the support from parents (vital), donors (we have charitable status) but importantly Viscountess Hood in allowing us the use of her squash court and tennis court.
(As an aside we must be grateful to Colonel Le Breton who had the foresight to build one of the first standard squash courts in the country and the tennis court)

Sadly, John passed away in the summer of 2009. Greatly missed, the dream goes on.

Each year at the LYPs annual presentation ceremony, the John Hughes special achievement trophy is awarded in his memory, to someone who has particularly excelled in their sport/art.
