Mike Heath

M80, Wimborne Orienteers, died 14th October 2014

Mike Heath was a long standing member of Wimborne Orienteers who was extremely fit and performed very well despite having had both hips replaced. In fact some years ago he was quoted in Compass Sport, in reply to a query about the possibility of continuing orienteering after a hip replacement!  Mike was quite relentless in his running and often ran past others when going uphill!

Mike’s first hip replacement had gone wrong so that he had only a limited ability to bend down. It was a well known duty among more senior club members to tie his shoe laces before he started and then, much more difficult, to untie them when he returned.

Mike was a very active member of his village community in Henstridge. He organised a number of successful CATI events for young people in the Inwood estate park  near the village. He was in his spare time a very keen gardener raising excellent crops for the house.

Sadly when he had to have his original hip replacement redone the severity of the operation was such that he was not able to carry on running as he had been accustomed to, so reluctantly he gave up.

The club has lost a good member and our sympathy goes to his widow, Diana, and the family.
