The tag rugby team from Loders were invited to take part in the Dorset Youth Games held at Bryanston School. | |
"The Dorset Youth Games is the largest
gathering of young sports people in the area, with around 1,000 from all
over the county taking part. The event at Bryanston School in Blandford is
now in its seventh year and involves children aged between nine and
15.Youngsters representing every borough and district in the county will
compete in seven different sports - athletics, rugby, swimming, hockey,
netball, girls' football and cricket. Similar events take place in counties across the country. Sport England and all the boroughs and districts in Dorset provide financial support to Active Sports, which organises the games.Chairman of Sports England Lord Carter says: "The youth games have for many years played an important role in promoting sport to a new generation." Young people have been chosen to take part in a number of ways. Some are members of existing school teams, participating because of their success at tournaments earlier in the year. Other teams will be made up of individuals from all over the district and were selected by coaches at trials on coaching programmes." (quoted from Dorsetforyou website) There was time between matches for some of those not playing to have fun in the river! |
