On Thursday the 12th of July years 5 and 6 went down to Weymouth outdoor education centre to go climbing and caving. In the afternoon most of the year sixes went to a cave called Flagpole cave. (It was called this because it has a flagpole above the cave.) On the way there, the year sixes passed a prison for children and then they climbed over a wall to get down to the cave. They were now on a path over looking the sea. It was getting steep now so they had to hold onto a piece of rope so they won’t slip and fall off the path. After that they were still walking on the same path except for it wasn’t as steep. Next we came across the cave exit but we didn’t go through that way because it would be harder going that way. (We past the exit because the cave goes in a horseshoe path).

Next we entered the cave. It looked thin and tall but it began to widen. We had to communicate by if someone sees a hidden danger he or she will tell the person behind them and then the message will pass along the line by telling the person behind them the message. We now had to climb up a rock to get through the cave and it was now getting thinner. Mr Kite couldn’t get any further so we had to leave him behind and meet him when we finish. Then Di (one of the staff from the centre) told us a story and it went like this… 26 years ago some people behaved well in the prison so they got to do some gardening in the prison. So they wanted to dig a hole for a tree but when they dug the hole, they dug into flagpole cave! So they called the cement mixers to refill the hole. But some people discovered the hole and wanted to escape but when they dropped down the hole the cement mixer covered them up. No one knows if they survived or not but there is some rumour saying that one man survived and the other one didn’t. Also one saying you can see the mans foot sticking out of the ceiling and one saying that there is a ghost of one of the men in there! Next we came up to a place called the letterbox (it’s called that because it looks like a horizontal letterbox and it’s the thinnest place in the cave!) After that some of the people who are a little scared of the dark went on and finished the cave but some people stayed back and tried to finish the cave without lights on!

Then we went back met Mr Kite and went back to the centre!
