Durlston Country Park

We went on a walking expedition at Durlston Country Park. We were looking for wildlife. We watched a Skylark fly and hover and land at it's nest (Skylarks nest on the ground). Then we walked a bit more.

A bit later on, Ziggy spotted a mini archway in the wall which separated one field from another. Mr Kite said, "They were used in olden days to let lambs get to the better grass.

 

 

 

 

 

 

So the ewes and their lambs would be put in to one field and the lambs would be able to get to the more lush grass in another field, without their mothers getting there first. This would help them grow big and strong. (The holes weren't big enough for the ewes to get through.) They were called Hoggit holes.

 

 

Later we came to a stile with a Hoggit Hole by it. We all went over the stile except for Robert who went through the Hoggit hole. Mr Kite said "You b-aa-aa-d b-oo-y
