THE BRIDPORT CLUSTER OF SMALL SCHOOLS

BURTON BRADSTOCK, LODERS, POWERSTOCK, ST CATHERINE'S, SYMONDSBURY AND THORNER'S PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Additional funding is provided by Dorset LEA to support Cluster activities. Cluster teachers work together to plan joint projects in curriculum areas where children would benefit from sharing resources and experiences with other schools. Sport and music have been recent Cluster priorities. There is a varied annual sports programme with seven-a-side football matches, the Cluster Cross Country in autumn, Cluster Netball Tournament in the spring, and Cluster Swimming Gala and Cluster Sports during the summer term.

LINKS WITH OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE BRIDPORT PYRAMID

With the two large town schools, there are eight primary schools in the Bridport area: Bridport St Mary's, Bridport Primary, Burton Bradstock, Loders, Powerstock, St Catherine's, Symondsbury and Thorner's. Most children transfer at age 11 to the Sir John Colfox School in Bridport, although some may go to Beaminster School or farther afield.

We liaise closely with Colfox School to ensure smooth pastoral and curricular transition, and have developed jointly a thorough induction process.

LINKS WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

We join with the local community to celebrate annual festivals including Harvest Thanksgiving and Christmas. St Mary Magdalene Church and Loders Village Hall are the usual venues for large school productions such as carol services and plays. Major annual events like the May Fair are very well supported by the villages of the Asker valley and we liaise with local organisations (for example, Loders Young Players - the village sports initiative for schoolchildren) on matters of mutual interest.

The school receives regular visits from the Police liaison officer and from medical staff who carry out specific checks on certain year-groups.
