Climbing at Weymouth outdoor education centre. On Monday the 17th of May year 5 went to Weymouth outdoor education centre. First of all we got our helmets on then we went on the practice wall, there were three walls one was easy and one was a bit harder and the third wall was very hard. When we had finished warming up we put our harnesses on and went outside, when we got to the big tower block, made of Portland limestone cemented together, we were shown how to use the rope to climb the stone tower.
Then we were put in three groups of four, one person would be climbing the tower, two would be pulling the rope at the other end and the last would be the boss of the group, telling people what to do.
Then we went inside for lunch.
After lunch everyone went outside to play football, the game was very fair eight girls against four boys, the girl's team had five in goal and three up front and the boys had one in goal one in defence and two in strike but the scores were 3 for the girls and 15 for the boys. The boy's team was:
Dale Way scored 7,Craig Wrixon scored 1, Paul Newberry and Jonathan Pownall scored 7
Leah Carter scored 1, Vicky Parker scored 2, Charlotte Bowler and Rebecca Black.
On Monday 17th May year 5 went caving at Rubbish Dump cave, which is at Weymouth. The cave entrance was a crack in the cliff outside of the crack there was tons of rubbish, which we had to clamber over to get to the entrance. As soon as everyone got in to the cave we had to put our lights on, then John, our instructor took us to the first chamber of the cave called the Bell chamber. When we got there we all sat round a hole and looked at the climate that we were in. There were lots of rocks of Limestone and in-between them there was lots of wet clay. Then we turned out all of the lights on our helmets so we were in total darkness. We had to rub one of our fingers in the clay and rub our finger on our noses and on each of our cheeks!
We then turned on our lights and carried on to the second chamber. Some people got scared because the roof got to low but they made it to the end of the second chamber. Some people stayed in chamber two with Michaela (Mr Kite’s daughter), some people went chamber three which the roof was much lower than the others. We had to clamber over a big rock, which was obstructing our path.
When we got to the end of chamber three we saw some stalactites and stalagmites which were really extraordinary to look at. Then we turned round and went back to the center.
