ON THE WAY TO VICTORY
As we got near to the harbour we saw a frigate war ship and two submarines being scrapped and a aircraft carrier. The journey took just over two hours in a hot bus, and the bus drove through the city.
We found somewhere to park but the bus driver couldn't get in to the gates so he dropped us off just near the gates and we walked there.

The Mary Rose Museum.
After lunch we went to the Mary Rose museum, (where they keep all the Artefacts they found on the seabed.) At points they had 'talking boxes' where you can select the language you want and it tells you something about certain things.
They had about five cannons in the museum, four mini cannons and loads of bows and arrows, or what was left of them, because parts of them had rotted away.
They had lots of other working materials including carpenters tools and lots of cookery equipment.
We saw a short film about the sinking of the Mary Rose and a model of it being lifted.
We saw some bones of the animals they kept for food and even some peppercorn and other seeds.
A lot of theses artefacts had been preserved at the bottom of the sea because through the years silt had laid on top of them and preserved them and made a protective layer.
When we had finished looking around the museum we were given a worksheet to pass the time. When we had finished the worksheet we went into the shop to buy some souvenirs.

The Mary Rose
On Thursday the 27
th of April 99, year 5/6 went to see the Mary Rose which was in Portsmouth. We were given a green telephone each , but we couldn't speak into it. We could here a mans voice telling us all about the Mary Rose. The Mary Rose was being sprayed with chemicals to preserve it. We could only see the Mary Rose by looking through a big glass.

The Royal Naval Museum
As we had some time left before we had to go on the Victory we went in the Royal Naval Museum. It had all about Horatio Nelson and his life. There were some French people and we had a chat in French. They were very nice.
We saw Nelson's Death Mask and a replica of his clothes.

HMS Victory
On Tuesday the 27th of April 1999 year 5 and 6 of Loders School went to Portsmouth Naval dockyard, and went to see Nelson's Flagship, HMS Victory. We had a tour of the Flagship by Kevin, one of the tour guides. As we went from deck to deck we had a little trouble getting up and down the steps because the steps were very steep and the ceiling got lower and lower as we went along, in places the teachers and the taller ones had to bend down to get from room to room. On the ship Kevin showed us where Nelson fell after he was shot by a French Musketeer and where Nelson died on the lower deck three and a half hours later.
