On Monday 18th May years 5 and 6 went to Leeson House, near Swanage. We left school at 10:15 am and took the coach to Leeson.
When we got there we took our luggage to the games room and walked to Dancing Ledge for lunch and then went to Spyway Barn and answered some questions, then went back to Leeson and made our beds and unpacked. Then we had a bedroom inspection and bedroom 3 with Tim Butler, Alastair Milree and Waldo Etherington in got 7 points. Then everyone went into the lounge and talked to Barry Cullimore about Leeson and had a fire drill. By that time it was time for the evening meal which was shepherd's pie and peas. Then we marked the questions that we had answered in Spyway Barn. Then it was bedtime at 21:30 and lights out at 22:30.
The rising bell rang at 07:30 and we had a bedroom inspection and bedroom 3 got 9 and a half points this time and then it was time for breakfast at 08:30 which was corn flakes, croissants and toast. After breakfast we went to Durlston Country Park.
We were given a booklet to answer and on the route there were posts with some information on and we had to find out the answers to the questions then write them down in the book.
Then after a while we had lunch by the 'great globe' which was a spherical globe and had the world marked on it and had benches with compass points engraved on them like NW or SW and things like that. I think that the globe was heavier than the world because the world is in space and everything in space is weightless. Then we went back to Leeson on the mini bus. Once at Leeson year 5 went orienteering with Mr Kite and year 6 went pond dipping with Barry Cullimore. Then we swapped around so that year 5 were pond dipping and year 6 was orienteering. Then we had the evening meal which was fishfingers and chips with peas. Then after the evening meal we could buy things from the shop like pencils, posters, rubbers, postcards and keyrings and other things like that. Then we had some free time. Then went over to the classroom to listen to David Strange the astronomer who had some interesting slides to show. By that time it was time to go on our night-walk. We went down the 'priest's way' and saw the small town of Swanage then by the time we got back we had to get into bed and go to sleep immediately.
The rising bell went a little bit late at 07:33 and everybody had to pack, to smarten up our beds and hoover the carpet. Then at 08:00 we had breakfast that was weetabix and toast. Then the mini-bus took us Studland Bay, where we walked to 'old Harry' and 'old Harry's wife' which are chalk stacks that had been formed by the sea wearing down the cliffs of chalk. We were on the Ballard Downs which one million years ago stretched all the way across the sea joining on the United Kingdom to the Isle of Wight, but now that part of the Ballard Downs is under the sea. We then walked along the coastal path until we reached a field of cows and as we walked past one it got up staggered one step towards us, then fell back down again. Then when we got to the gate we found a cow had, well deposited right in front of the gate!!!! After we had manouvered past the gate we were 383 feet above sea level we finally started to go down at an angle of about 155 degrees and descended into Swanage and then went to a monument and we went off in groups and went round the shops and had to be back at a specified time which was 15:55. The mini-bus took us back to Leeson and we put our luggage on the front lawn and played around until the bus arrived and then we put our luggage in another mini-bus and then got into a coach which took us back to Loders by 17:00 when everyone went back home and our trip was over. |
