CHARLIE THE TOY MAKER

The Loders School Christmas Play of 1998

On Wednesday the 16th of December the whole of Loders School were involved in the Christmas play, called Charlie The Toymaker. The drama club led the performance, which is run by Mr John Foot.

At the beginning of the performance the band led by Mrs Clare Dawson, played a very tuneful Rudolph and Jingle bells, which they couldn't have done without the help of Miss Clare Doncaster, the year 5/6 student teacher from Exeter and Mrs Mary Buckland.

Then we got on with the play, we kicked it off with a song called Christmas Eve, which was conducted by Mrs Helen Wright and sung by the school. Then the acting began.

The chief toymaker (Anna Bariffi) and her elves were hard at work making toys for Christmas. While they were hard at work the thoughtless children of the village were throwing away their old and broken toys, which the elves had worked so hard to make on previous years. This made the toymaker very angry ,especially when there are children in some countries that never get toys to play with. While this was happening , Michelle Newberry and myself (Vicky Parker) sang a duet called The Discarded Toys.

When the children woke on Christmas morning and looked in their stockings, they realised how ungrateful they had been, there were no new toys for them this year!

The elves felt sorry for the children and gave them their old toys that the elves had repaired. Then we all sang The Toys Return. Everyone enjoyed the play, which also raised money for Save The Children.
