The old railway line was first opened in 1857 on 12th November. It ran from Bridport to Maiden Newton. In 1884 the West Bay extension was made so the train started at West Bay and ran to Maiden Newton.
The line goes through many different places including Loders.
That’s where we are basing our local studies project
The Great Western Railways owned the railway line. At first steam trains were used and then diesel. It was closed on 3 May 1974. The driver of the last train was called Reg Chappell. The train left at 9.20 in the morning
When it was closed a bus service was made to replace the trains.
